The Spirit Awards (formerly The Robinson Award) Program honoring top collegiate football players from historically black colleges ceremony will be held Friday January 10, 1997 at the Regal Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. This year's awards dinner will be syndicated nationally and co-hosted by TV personality Rolanda Watts and KCBS-TV sports anchor Jim Hill.
In addition to the presentation of the Paul "Tank" Younger Trophy to the top collegiate football player from an HBCU, a Special Career Achievement Award will be presented to NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Tony Dungy will be the keynote speaker.
