S.C. State to showcase renovated trackOctober 18, 2001
Orangeburg, SC ≠ South Carolina State will showcase its newly renovated track and field complex during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday (Oct. 22) at 12 noon at the Lorry H. Dawkins Track Complex located behind Dawson Bulldog Stadium on the campus. The public is invited.
The SCSU track and field complex, which once played host to some of the nationís most dynamic track stars, has undergone an approximately $700,000 renovation, making it a state-of-the-art facility.
The renovation, which was completed earlier this month, will enable the University to once again host outstanding track events, including the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship, which was once a frequent stop in Orangeburg. It will also help the Bulldogs to attract top quality track and field recruits for Coach Ernest Tche.
The contractor for the project was Southeastern Site Solutions of Florence, the same company that prepared facilities at the University of South Carolina and Florida A&M. The project included resurfacing all eight lanes and re-doing all of the areas for field events, and constructing them so that they can be run in either direction, depending on the wind.
