Winston-Salem State reestablishes Athletic Hall of FameOctober 2, 2001After a 15-year silence, the Winston-Salem State University Athletic Hall of Fame has been re-established thanks to new director of athletics Dr. Chico Caldwell and assistant director of athletics and head women's basketball coach Daymond Lindell. Headed by Lindell, the 25-person committee features a who's-who of Winston-Salem State University athletics, will have legendary coach Clarence "BigHouse" Gaines serving as a special advisor. The initial meeting of the committee occurred on Saturday, September 29, with discussion topics including: nomination procedures, ballots and selection criteria. Inductees to the WSSU Athletic Hall of Fame will be viewed on their honors and accomplishments as an undergraduate, as well as their professional achievements, community service and contributions to professional organizations. Hall of Fame Committee members incude Clarence Gaines, Fred Warren, Donald Cureton, Harold Clawson, Carter Que, Stenson Conley, Joli Robinson, Delores Todd, Gregory Hairston, Dr. James Wright, Timmie Newsome, Henry Jones, Samuel Puryear, Marcelene Scales, Theodore Blunt, Earl Monroe, Cleo Hill, Troy Davis, William Cain, Alfred Harvey, Ken Griffin, Lt. Col. Robert Weeks, Lee Richardson, Arthur Affleck and Naomi Jeffries.
