Jones Moves from MEAC Office to South Carolina
- South Carolina State
interim athletics director and head football coach Buddy Pough
has indefinitely suspended running back Derek Watson from the
Bulldog football team. The suspension comes in the wake of Watson's arrest September
22, 2002 by the Richland County Sheriff Department for a traffic violation.

- Shaw
University and head men's basketball coach Joel
Hopkins have parted company. In a statement released
by the University, both parties "have reached an
amicable decision" for Hopkins to "end his contract
with the University". "Although this was a difficult decision,
we believe it is in the best interest of both parties",
said President Talbert Shaw. "We appreciate
what Coach Hopkins and his staff have done for Shaw University's
basketball program. Under his guidance the University
made history; winning it's first-ever Central Intercollegiate
Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship, the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) South Atlantic
Regional Championship and advanced to the Final Four of
the NCAA.
