Howard names new Athletics Director

Howard University has announced
the appointment of Dwight Datcher as
the University’s
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Datcher brings 28 years of experience in college
athletics to the University. He joins Howard
from Georgetown University where he served
as the associate director of athletics.
Prior to Georgetown, Datcher served as the
director of athletics at the University of
the District of Columbia from 1992-1997.
He served as the head men’s basketball
coach at Roger Williams University in Rhode
Island from 1985 to 1992. During his tenure
as coach, Datcher became the assistant director
of athletics and later the director of athletics.
In 1988, Datcher was named an assistant men’s
basketball coach by the U.S. Olympic Association.
A native Washingtonian, Datcher began his
coaching career as an assistant with Georgetown
men’s basketball program after graduation
from Roger Williams in 1974. He later assumed
the head coaching position at St. Anthony’s
High School in Washington, DC where he amassed
an outstanding 144-44 record over eight years.
Datcher was a four-year starter on the men’s
basketball team at Roger Williams.
