Simon says “Brown demonstrated a tremendous work ethic
since his arrival on campus two years ago. I expect him
to turn this program back around to the glory days of the late
70’s and early 80’s when Cheyney was competing
for the national championship. I look forward to Coach
Brown’s long tenure as a guiding force for the Cheyney
women’s basketball program.”
Brown began his coaching career by working with youth in the
Philadelphia area through his involvement with the Police Athletic
League. Brown went on to coach at both the high school and
collegiate level. Brown brings a wealth of basketball experience
to the Cheyney University Women’s Basketball Program.
During his time at Norristown Area High School Brown was instrumental
in leading the program to three 20-game winning seasons which
included appearances in the District Final Four and the 2nd
round of the state playoffs. In addition, Brown, a native of
Philadelphia, saw all of his players go on to graduate, among
them seven receiving Division I athletic scholarships, three
more at Division II and some have gone on to play professionally.
During his collegiate coaching career Brown has been especially
proud of the high academic marks that have consistently been
achieved by all teams that he has been involved. Brown has
also been an instructor and lecturer at several basketball
camps.
“Growing up in Pennsylvania, becoming the Head Coach
at Cheyney University has always been a dream of mine. I am
very grateful to Athletic Director Simon and President Arnold.
It is an honor and privilege to be afforded this opportunity
and I will work incredibly hard to make this program a program
that will make us all proud,” commented the rookie head
coach.
Brown is a graduate of Overbrook High School and The Fox School
of Business at Temple University.
