May 19, 2007

Carbondale, Ill --- Despite a better day at the plate the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes softball team could not overcome five errors as their season ended with a 7-0 shutout by host Southern Illinois in game four of the 2007 NCAA Softball Carbondale Regional.

After being held hitless the day before the Devilettes matched the Salukis this afternoon with six hits. Right fielder Shiana Mitchell went 2-for-4 at the plate, while first baseman Christle Middleton finished 2-for-3 to lead the Devilettes offense. On the mound Nikki Strouder suffered the loss after giving up the seven runs (three earned) in six innings of work.

The Salukis had six different batters record a hit, but it was Alicia Garza two run homer in the first inning that set the pace for the game. Cassidy Scoggins picked up the win for the Salukis after tossing a complete game, striking out 10 and scattering the six hits.
