Delaware State to face Columbia in NIT Tip-off

New York – The 16-team field for the 2007 Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off tournament has been announced, and Delaware State's Hornets will travel to Columbus, OH to take on Columbia University of the Ivy League in a Midwest Region contest on November 12.

“It’s an honor for our program to be a part of this pre-season tournament,” said DSU Head Coach Greg Jackson. “The NIT gives us a chance to see strong competition early and also get good national exposure.”

The Midwest Regional will be played at Ohio State University. The DSU/Columbia contest will tip off at 6:00 p.m., followed by Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Green-Bay at 9:00 p.m. The regional consolation and championship games will be played the following day.

“We are quite pleased with the caliber of teams in this year’s event and we look forward to another exciting start to college basketball with the NIT,” commented C.M. Newton, chair of the NIT Committee. The NIT Season Tip-Off, founded in 1985, will feature all first and second round contests at campus sites. All teams in the tournament are guaranteed at least two games. ESPN will provide coverage of the event, televising games on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU.

In other action, the East Regional will be hosted by Syracuse University on November 12 and 13. Syracuse will open against Siena College and St. Joseph’s University will face Fairleigh Dickinson University. The West Region will be hosted by the University of Washington on November 13 and 14. Washington will face New Jersey Institute of Technology and the University of Utah will take on High Point University. Rounding out the field is the South Regional in November 13 and 14 at Texas A&M University. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will battle the University of Texas-El Paso, while Oral Roberts takes on Texas A&M.

The tournament will culminate in New York’s Madison Square Garden with the semi-final doubleheader tipping off at 7 p.m. on November 21 (ESPN2). The championship doubleheader will be played on November 23, with the consolation game starting at 4:30 p.m. and the championship tipping off at 7 p.m. Each game will air on ESPN.
