St. Aug, JCSU Football Game selected as National Game of the Week
August 9, 2007
RALEIGH, NC – The September 22 contest between host Saint Augustine’s College and Johnson C. Smith will be shown live on the Internet this season as the NCAA Division II National Football Game of the Week.
Football fans can watch the CIAA game, scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff at Broughton High School Stadium, at the following website: www.NCAAsports.com/dii. The contest is just one of four Division II football games selected to be viewed via broadband Internet this season.
This marks a first for both teams; the first time a football contest involving Saint Augustine’s College and Johnson C. Smith has been chosen as a national game of the week. The Falcons, 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the CIAA in 2006, is the preseason co-favorite to win the CIAA Western Division. The Golden Bulls, 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the CIAA in 2006, are picked to finish third in the CIAA's western division.
"After last year's season and Pioneer Bowl bid, being chosen to be one of the four nationally broadband games is definitely an honor for the university and how far this program has come in such a short time," remarked head coach Daryl C. McNeill. "Hopefully we will give fans across the world wide web a great showing."
JCSU opens the 2007 season at home against Edward Waters on August 25. Game time is 6:00 p.m. at the Irwin Belk Complex. St. Aug opens its 2007 season at home against Mars Hill on Sept. 1. Game time is 1:30 p.m. at Broughton High School Stadium.
This is the second year of the NCAA Division II Regular Season TV and Broadband Package. The NCAA will produce several regular season football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball TV and broadband games.
