Arrington Jones resigns as Va Union head football coach

March 25, 2008

Virginia Union University Head Football Coach Arrington Jones III has resigned. In a letter to Athletic Director Michael Bailey, Coach Jones cited personal reasons for his resignation and indicated that his resignation was effective immediately. Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Greg Richardson has been appointed as Virginia Union's new head football coach.

Jones joined Virginia Union as Head Football Coach in 2004. He compiled a record of 21-21 during his four seasons of Panther football. Most recently, he coached the Panthers to a 9-1 regular season record, earning the 2007 CIAA Eastern Division Championship. The Panthers represented the CIAA in the Pioneer Bowl and Jones was named the 2007 CIAA Coach of the Year.

Richardson recently completed his second season as Panther Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. He was also a member of the Virginia Union football staff during the 1997 and 1998 seasons. During that time, he led the defense to a #10 NCAA Division II ranking in total defense.
