Coppin State Names Chalmus Tennis Coach
August 9, 2009
BALTIMORE -- Coppin State director of athletics Derrick Ramsey has named Maurice Chalmus as the Eagles men's and women's tennis coach.
It will mark the second stint for Chalmus as Coppin State's head coach having served in the same capacity from 1986-88.
"I believe Maurice has the necessary skill set to improve our tennis programs," Ramsey said. "His previous experience working at Coppin State will help enable him to be successful as will his strong work ethic and dedication to his sport."
In addition to working at Coppin State, Chalmus has previous collegiate experience at Catonsville Community College where he served as the men's and women's head coach in 2001.
Additionally, he has served as the co-ed tennis coach at Baltimore City College High School for the past seven years. Under his direction, City posted undefeated seasons in both 2005 and 2007.
He also has served as the head tennis coach at Catholic High School, Fredrick Douglass High School and Lake Clifton High School.
Chalmus replaces Charles Spencer, whose contract was not renewed following the 2008-09 season. Spencer recorded a combined 13-71 overall record in three seasons as the men's and women's head coach.
