Bethune-Cookman announces future football games with Miami and Central Florida
July 14, 2010
Bethune-Cookman University Athletics Director, Lynn W. Thompson and Head Football Coach Brian Jenkins have announced the addition of three major games on the Wildcat football schedule in the next three years.
The future games include a two game series against the five-time NCAA champion Miami Hurricanes, in 2011 and 2012 and a game with Conference USA opponent Central Florida in 2013.
The games against Miami are scheduled for October 1, 2011 and October 13, 2012 in Sun Life Stadium in Miami. The Wildcats will meet UCF on September 21, 2013 at Brighthouse Stadium in Orlando.
"The scheduling of major non-conference games has become a priority for us," said Thompson. "To be in a position to play some of the top BCA schools in the nation offers more benefits than liabilities. My years of service on the NCAA FCS Football Committee revealed that increasing the strength of scheduling puts us in a stronger position for the NCAA playoffs, it helps with recruiting and visibility, and the major guarantees generated not only benefits the football program but the entire university."
“For our fans they get the opportunity to see us play one of the top programs in the country," said Jenkins, who begins his first year as the Wildcats' head coach. "For our fans to have the opportunity to see us play in Florida, it is a great thing and very exciting for our program.”
