Alabama A&M's Kyetta Walker named Sportswoman of the YearDecember 13, 2000
New York, NY --Alabama A&M outside hitter Kyetta Walker has been named the Lady Speedstick Sportswoman of the Year. The Eddie Robins Awards,sponsored by Street & Smith's and presented by Lady Speedstick by Mennen. Walker was recognized with a presentation at the SWAC Championship game by Phyllis Woolley, director of minority marketing for Colgate-Palmolive.
The Awards, now in their third year, are voted on by coaches,athletic directors and members of the media who cover women's athletics.Walker will accept her award at a gala dinner to be held January in Atlanta.There she will be joined by this year's Speedstick Player of the Year,Florida A&M receiver Jacquay Nunnally and Speedstick Coach of the Year,Grambling State's Doug Williams.
Walker has played a significant role in the Alabama A&M women'svolleyball team, helping the Lady Bulldogs win their first SWAC Championshiptitle and securing the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.As the first person in the front court rotation, Walker played in over 100games, was sixth in the SWAC in hitting percentage (.299) and second on theteam with blocks at 60 (15 solo). She is also a Dean's List student with a3.27 g.p.a. while majoring in environmental science.
