Tennessee State Tigers' Finalize 2001 Football Schedule

TennesseeState University has finalized the 2001 TSU football schedule.  Added to this year's home schedule willbe Alabama A&M University and Mississippi Valley State University.

AlabamaA&M, the 2000 Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division Football Runnerup, will bethe Tigers' opponent for the John Merritt Classic on Saturday, September 1,2001 and TSU will play Mississippi Valley State on October 13, 2001 forhomecoming.

AlabamaA&M returns to Tennessee State's schedule after a one-year absence, TheBulldogs last played the Tigers in 1999 when TSU won 36-15 in Normal, Alabama.Tennessee State holds a 15-4 series record against Alabama A&M and has wonthe last two meetings.

MississippiValley State has not played Tennessee State since 1991 when they defeated theTigers 10-7. The series record is tied 3-3 between the Tigers and the DeltaDevils.

BothAlabama A&M and Mississippi Valley are members of the Southwestern AthleticConference (SWAC) and join Jackson State from that conference as a TSUopponent. Tennessee State will play two schools from the Mid-Eastern AthleticConference (MEAC), Florida A&M and Howard. The Tigers' Ohio ValleyConference schedule, which usually begins after their "Classics" season, will begin early with a September 29^thwhen they host Southeast Missouri State, in between the Atlanta Classic(Florida A&M) and the Circle City Classic (Howard).

TennesseeState has six home dates, and will play in three  "Classic" football games on the road.
