  • Elizabeth City State football coach George Moody becomes the second Black College football coach to leave his job this season. He has announced his resignation, effective at the end of the current season. The Vikings are currently 1-7 on the year having won their first game last week against Livingstone.

  • Because of the threat of Hurricane Irene, Bethune-Cookman College's football game Saturday night against South Carolina State University has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 21, at 7 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach.
    The eye of the tropical storm is forecast to hover over Central Florida approximately 7 p.m. Saturday night, prompting B-CC officials to postpone the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.
    Heavy rain and winds are expected to batter the Daytona Beach area most of the day Saturday. The area was hit with rain and light winds Friday afternoon. Heavy winds, lightning and isolated tornadoes accompanied the storm Friday in the South Florida area.
    As of 2:45 p.m. Friday, the eye of the storm was approaching landfall south of Naples.
    All tickets for the football game will be honored.

  • Funeral Services for basketball legend John B. McLendon will be held, Wednesday, October 13 in Cleveland, Ohio.
    A wake is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Bethany Christian Church, 3940 Martin Luther King Boulevard. Funeral services will follow at 6:30 p.m.

  • Two North Carolina Central University football players,starting running back Myron Flowers and back-up tight end Shay Wingate, havebeen suspended.
    Flowers has been suspended by the institution while an investigation ofan NCAA eligibility rules violation is being conducted.
    Wingate was found in violation of the NCAA eligibility rules and has beendeclared ineligible. Wingate's suspension is for one year (365 days).
