The Onnidan Group can best be described as a partnership of individuals with backgrounds in sports information, marketing, journalism and telecommunications. Our work can be grouped into four areas.
Statistical Services
The backbone of Onnidan's activities has been providing computer-based statistical services in a variety of environments. We specialize in providing stats for football, basketball, cross country, baseball, softball and track. Our distinction is our speed and accuracy. Our work has taken us from NCAA Championships to high school invitational track and field meets.
Our client list includes the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament, Big 10 Women's Basketball Tournament, NCAA Division III football and basketball championships, CIAA men's and women's basketball tournament, MEAC men's and women's basketball tournament, North Carolina High School Athletic Association football and basketball championships and Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments. Most recently we worked the Military Bowl in Washington, DC.
We have worked as official statisticians for the Pioneer Bowl, Heritage Bowl, Aggie-Eagle Football Classic, Harbor City Classic, Legacy Basketball Classic and Carolinas Football Classic.
We have also provided statistical services for home football games at N.C. Central, N.C. A&T State, Howard, Livingstone, Saint Augustine's, Shaw, Virginia Union, Saint Paul's and Johnson C. Smith and have been contracted to provide home basketball stat services for Clafllin University, Elizabeth City State, Fayetteville State, N.C. Central, N.C. A&T State, Howard University, Saint Paul's, Shaw University, St. Augustine's College and Washington Adventist University.
Our background in broadcasting has facilitated a relationship with several broadcast operations. We served as statisticians for cablecasts by Black Entertainment Television for over 10 years and ESPNU for three years, as well as provided production support for organizations covering games for which we are providing stats (HTS, Sunbelt Video, Jefferson Pilot, ESPN etc.).
Information Brokering
Gathering all this statistical data and knowing different ways to distribute it led to the development of The Onnidan Reports on HBCU Sports and this web site.
Each football season we produced and distributed a "faxletter" of scores and standings of black college games to newspapers and radio stations around the country. The Onnidan Fax Report On Black College Sports provided a quick update for fans and media and is now available on our web site as one of the information sources we maintain.
Onnidan Reports were also produced for distribution on radio stations across America. During football season we syndicated a weekly program which previewed games on the black college schedule. During basketball season, the program expanded to semiweekly.
A few years back, we joined forces with Golden Communications, Inc. to assist in the production of "This Week in Black College Football" and the "Black College Sports Report"
We provide other brokering services to publications interested in black college sports information. We have distributed a variety of information from cumulative attendance figures for black college football games to listings of SIDs at black colleges. We maintain an active relationship with black college sports through our managing partner's position as Executive Director of the Black College Sports Information Directors Association (BCSIDA).
Personal Computer Operations Consultants
Our background and experience in using computers has led to a personal computer operations consulting activity. Here, we train others on how to use their computers to more effectively accomplish tasks in data management and telecommunications. We have conducted workshops for sports information directors in two black college conferences in addition to once serving as chairman of the College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA) Computer (now Technology) Committee.
We've been called on to beta test software and provide feedback as a result of our experiences with personal computers (Mac and PC).
Website Administration
We've also become webmasters for hire. In addition to Onnidan's HBCU Sports, we've administered The CIAA Online - official web site of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. We've also served as webmasters for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC.org), the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (TheSIAC.com), Miles College (MilesGoldenBears.com),Claflin University (ClaflinPanthers.com) and the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN.com). We helped establish the first web site for the Honda Battle of the Bands, Elizabeth City State University and former Olympian Dawn Staley.
