Miles, Bowie out of Division II Playoffs

Miles College, this year's SIAC champ and Bowie State, the top dawg in the CIAA, both lost their first-round playoff games over the weekend of November 23. The Golden Bears were knocked off by the Bears of Lenoir Rhyne 36-7. Undefeated (11-0) LR led 26-0 at halftime and only gave up seven points to their hosts in the third period. Meanwhile, despite the 19-7 loss, the Bulldogs, who went into the contest undefeated in the regular season (11-0), led the 8-2 Eagles 9-7 at halftime. But Carson-Newman shut out Bowie scoring in the second half 19-0 despite two near-attack serious threats by Bowie......a small crowd of 1819 came out for the contest........

fvsu kevin porterPorterThere is some scuttlebutt here in Atlanta and certain parts of Peach County that ousted head football coach Kevin Porter was shortchanged. Those close to Porter said he really wanted the job at FVSU and took it despite a woeful lack of scholarships to attract players to the southwest Georgia campus........

I wonder why Valley 's celebrated quarterback Slade Jarmin missed the Wildcats' key game vs. Albany State? All I get is that during the mix with CAU, he left the contest but no reason was ever given for why. An INSIDER tells us that his leg was broken during the game. Despite missing the remaining games on the schedule, the senior was named the conference's 2019 player of the year.........

OUTSIDE THE SIAC: A little more is at stake for the SWAC Championship game December 7th in Lorman Mississippi. Alcorn (remember its pronounced ALL, not AL) which last weekend crushed Jackson State, will see who will sit atop SWAC Mountain when the Braves take on the winner of the Grambling-Southern Bayou Classic come Saturday at Jack Spinks-Marino "Godfather" Casem Stadium in Lorman. The winner of the 46th Bayou Classic can keep their bags packed for Lorman.celebration bowl logo

The Jackson-Alcorn "Soul Bowl" classic drew a crowd of 35,104. Seems it should be no problem then for SWAC fans to make the championship tilt a sellout. Spinks-Casem Stadium only holds 22.500. Don't forget the SWAC champ goes to Atlanta (my and the SIAC's hometown) for Celebration Bowl V versus the Aggies of North Carolina A&T.

One last thing. Pleaze support HBCU football. At least buy a ticket to these games. It's the most inexpensive way to support our colleges. If we don't, one day someone other then "Us" will be running the show!!!
