Reigning Olympic silver medalist Michael Tinsley (Jackson State) led a group of HBCU product performances at the recently concluded USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, IA.  usatf logoTinsley won the 400m hurdles race holding off Kerron Clement and Bershawn "Batman" Jackson (St. Augustine's) to capture his first national outdoor title.

Five other HBCU products earned top 5 finishes at the meet.

David Oliver (Howard) finished second in the men's 110m hurdles.

Hampton's Francena McCorory was runner-up in the women's 400m dash and Jeffrey Henderson (Stillman) finished second in the men's long jump.

All five will join the USA National Team competing in the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia, August 10-18.

Hampton's Kelly Wells (4th in women's 100m hurdles) could make the team as an alternate.

St. Aug's Barbara Pierre, who set a stadium record with a world-leading time of 10.85 seconds in the women’s 100 meter semifinals, finished fifth in the finals and will probably go to the World Championships representing her native Haiti.
