ALBANY, GA--The 13th Annual Albany State University National Alumni Sports Hall of Fame & Reunion Weekend will occur on September 13, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Albany State University New Student Center.
This year, two distinguished individuals, Reginald Hunter and Anthony Cal Kelly, will be inducted into the class of 2013. The idea of Albany State University National Alumni Association Sports Hall of Fame (ASUNAASHOF) was first presented to the National Alumni Board of Directors in 1999 by Sue Bivins Fountain and Reginald Hunter.
Albany State's finest athletes, coaches and sports industry leaders are inducted into the ASUNAASHF. From world-famous to little-known athletes in sports ranging from basketball, baseball, aquatic, volleyball, tennis, softball, football, track & field and cross-country, these individuals have demonstrated those characteristics that are the true glory of athletic competition.
The Induction Ceremony is a red carpet event to officially induct them into the Sports Hall of Fame. This exclusive event will take place Friday, September 13, 2013, beginning with a Meet & Greet at 6:00p.m. and the Hall of Fame Banquet at 7:00 p.m.
Reginald Hunter is a native of Stephens GA, and an active member of Athens Area Alumni Chapter, Albany State University National Alumni Association, ASU Quarterback Club, Co-founder of the Albany State University National Alumni Sports Hall of Fame, Founder of the Coach Robert A. Cross Scholarship Fund, served as President, Vice President, and Member at Large of Albany State National Alumni Association. Reginald still holds the SIAC 1500 Meter Record that was set in 1979. From1976 – 1980, he was victorious in seasonal meets, and lettered each year of his track and field career at Albany State University. Reginald was a member of ASU Cross Country Championship Team; he held Tuskegee Relay Record and was a SIAC All Conference Men's Track and Field Athlete. After more than 28 years of service, Reginald retired as a Lieutenant Fire Prevention Officer and Certified Arson Investigator from Athens-Clarke County Fire Department and now serves as Pastor of New Spring Hill Baptist Church in Philomath, GA.
Carl Kelly is a native of Meridian Mississippi, and is a member of Sylvester Worth Alumni Chapter, Albany State University National Alumni Association, ASU Quarterback Club and makes regular donations to Albany State University. As an avid supporter and ambassador of ASU and its programs, Anthony has been directly involved in the growth and development of student athletes at Albany State University and the Golden Rams Football Team for over 20 years. He serves as a volunteer assistant football coach for the Golden Rams Football Team. Anthony has served in this position since his playing days in 1989, and still currently serves in this capacity, under Head Football Coach Mike White. Coach White said, "Mr. Kelly has a wonderful rapport with people of all ages and cultures. He has shown that he can work independently and is able to follow thru to ensure that the job gets done with great initiative and with a positive attitude". Anthony was a student athlete in football and baseball. From 1986 -1990, he was SIAC Student Athlete and SIAC Player of the week in football and SIAC All Conference in Baseball. In addition to his commitment to Albany State University as a volunteer coach since his graduation in 1990, he has been employed at Miller Coors as a chemist Microbiologist, a Sensory Engineer and now serves as a Senior Brewing Process Leader.
