AUGUSTA, GA - Paine College has announced the hiring of Marquita Davis as the new Head Coach of Cross Country, in addition to Track and Field. The nine-time All-American earned her bachelor’s degree from St. Augustine’s University in 2006 and is a native of Memphis, Tennessee.Marquita DavisDavis

Prior to serving as an Assistant Cross Country and Track coach at St. Augustine’s, Davis gained experience as a high school coach in North Carolina. While attending St. Augustine’s, Davis was a decorated student-athlete breaking many school records while being a member of the College’s 2005 and 2007 NCAA Indoor Championship teams. As a 60m hurdler, Davis won back-to-back NCAA Division II indoor titles in 2006 and 2007. She finished a speedy 8.44 seconds both years, which was record time during these athletic events.

Davis is also no stranger to conference success. She won the CIAA 100m hurdles title each of her four years during her undergraduate career. Her successes helped the team collect four indoor CIAA Championships and another three outdoor Conference Championships.

Her previous experience presented her with the opportunity to work directly with student-athletes on and off of the track. Davis’ specialties are hurdles, sprints and middle distance. In addition to coaching, practice and weight training responsibilities, she has also overseen work-study students and assisted in student-athlete support.

She has also attended the NCAA Women Coaches Academy and has a certificate in NCAA Division II Rules Compliance. Davis looks forward to making an immediate impact on the Lions program working with student-athletes on their leadership and academic abilities along with their athletic skills.
