Quarterback Monqavious Johnson  rushed for a 24-yard touchdown with no time left on the clock and lifted Morehouse to a 19-13 win over the Edward Waters College Tigers.morehouse logo

The gusty run by Johnson broke a 13-13 tie and won a game that was delayed by weather and marred by penalties.

Morehouse got on the board first, when linebacker Kenneth Hagins recovered an errant EWC punt in the end zone. Kicker Alex Maganda tacked on the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
EWC bounced back with a 40-yard run for a touchdown by running back Sir Jackson.
Morehouse took the lead once again on an 18-yard field goal, midway through the second quarter.

EWC responded less than a minute later. Basil Spencer caught a 62-yard pass from Jerrod Thomas, for a 13-10 EWC halftime lead.

That score held up until Maganda tied the score at 13-all with his second field goal – a 38 yarder, with seven minutes remaining.

When Johnson scored the winning touchdown, it was the first time the Maroon Tigers led in the second half.

David Smith led a Morehouse defense that yielded 334 yards, but only two touchdowns. Smith collected a game-high nine tackles, including two tackles for loss and a half sack. He also recovered an EWC fumble.

Morehouse will play the season home opener Saturday, at 2 p.m. against the Kentucky State Thorobreds.
