After learning that Albany State University had backed out of an agreement to host Tuskegee University on November 12, TU officials have announced that the Golden Tigers will host Virginia State University on Saturday for its 10th game of the regular season.

The teams will meet at Cleve Abbott Stadium at 12 noon CT.

Tuskegee (7-1) is ranked sixth in Super Region 2 and needed a 10th game to qualify for spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs. TU's request for a waiver to allow them to qualify for the playoffs with only nine games, was denied by the NCAA.

Virginia State (8-2) was contacted by Tuskegee and the Trojans agreed to come to Alabama. VSU head coach Reggie Barlow formerly coached at Alabama State University and coached against TU's Willie Slater in the Turkey Day Classic. The last time Slater's Golden Tigers and Barlow's Hornets played each other was in 2012.

"I am very disappointed in Albany State's decision not to honor their agreement," Tuskegee University Athletic Director Curtis Campbell said in a statement on the school's website. "As members of the SIAC, we must be able to trust the word of a member institution."

Barlow told the Montgomery Advertiser newspaper "I'm so grateful for administration that believes in me and trusts me and they said it was my decision."

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Tuskegee University athletic department announced today (Nov 5) that the Golden Tigers will play a 10th regular season contest this season against Albany State.

The game will be played in Albany, Ga with the game time to be announced at a later date.

The Golden Tigers have been looking for a 10th game since Stillman announced it was dropping football last December.

With the additional contest, Tuskegee will meet the 10-game regular season requirement set forth by the NCAA to qualify for the NCAA Division II playoffs where they are currently fourth overall in the Super Region 2 standings.

Tuskegee and Albany State faced each other earlier this season (September 10) in the 3rd Annual Whitewater Classic in Phenix City, AL.  TU won that game 28-18.
