With the decision by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) to postpone fall sports with a proposal that games might be scheduled in the Spring, two Classic Football Games have moved from being "cancelled" to "postponed".

The Magic City Classic, pitting Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University, scheduled for October 31 in Birmingham and the Bayou Classic featuring Grambling State University and Southern University on November 20 in New Orleans, have both announced that they are looking at dates in the Spring to host the games.

“The Magic City Classic is not cancelled. It’s been moved to the spring,” said Perren King, Senior Sales Director with the Bruno Event Team.in an interview on Birmingham;s WBRC.

In addressing a possible date in April, King said “These are divisional rivals so trying to line up their byes, plus with students coming back in January and them having an 8 week span of training, it does put us into that time frame,” King said.

New Orleans Convention Company, Inc. (NOCCI) promoters of the Bayou Classic was less specific in a statement posted on their Instagram page.

"With the planned move of SWAC football to the spring, we remain optimistic that the iconic Bayou Classic ... will be played between Southern University and Grambling State University at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans at some time in the future.

Specific dates for each game will be clarified once the SWAC master football schedule is published.

From an economic impact perspective, the Magic City Classic brings in more that $23 million for the city during that weekend.

The Bayou Classic provides a $50 million economic impact to the City of New Orleans.
