BIRMINGHAM, AL – South Carolina State senior Tyrell Richard and N.C. A&T senior Kayla White are NCAA indoor track and field champions. Richard finished first in the 400 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championship at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. Saturday.

White also finished second in the 60m hurdles to record 18 points for the Aggies.

Richard is the second Bulldog sprinter in as many seasons to medal at the prestigious NCAA Indoor Track Championships. Last season, Demek Kemp earned a bronze medal with a third-place finish in the 60 meters.

White was the top qualifier in the women’s 200 meters on Friday by running a 22.94. White finished ahead of Texas’ Kynnedy Flannel (22.96) and Arkansas’ Payton Chadwick (23.001) during qualifying. On February 2, White ran a 22.82 at the University of Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational. At the time, it was the fastest time ran in the world.

She came through in the finals, finishing the event in 22.66 ahead of Alabama's Tamara Clark (22.989) and Arkansas' Payton Chadwick (22.990)

Bethune-Cookman's Quamecha Morrison finished second in the high jump.

Norfolk State's Martha Bissah claimed fifth place in the 800 meters.
