Bethune-Cookman alum Eric Cray, running for the Philippines, advanced to the semifinals of the men's 400m hurdles by finishing third in his heat with a time of 49.05.rio2016

Former Saint Augustine’s and Lincoln (Mo) University star Roxroy Cato also reached the semifinals of the men’s 400m hurdles at the Rio Olympics.

Running for Jamaica, Cato placed fourth in the third heat at Olympic Stadium, but his season’s best time of 48.56 was the fifth-fastest preliminary time. The top three finishers in each of the six qualifying heats and the next six fastest hurdlers made the semifinals -- which start Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 8:35 p.m.

Jackson State product Michael Tinsley missed advancing in the 400m hurdles, finishing fifth in his heat with a time of 50.18.

Ronnie Ash , running for Team USA, who began his collegiate career at Bethune-Cookman, won his heat in the men's 110m hurdles to advance to the semifinals.

Tia-Adana Belle (St. Augustine's - Barbados) finished 4th in her heat and did not advance finishing 28th overall.
