ALEXANDRIA, La. - Alabama State University defended its championship title capturing the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship on Tuesday at Links on the Bayou.

ASU followed a 306 for day one with a stroke count of 312 in the final round for its final score of 618.Southwestern Athletic Conference

The Lady Hornets had six players finish in the top eight overall while making the all-conference team. ASU was powered by championship MVP Jenelle Kraakman. Kraakman retained her top performer title shooting 4-over at 148 finishing 1-over-par 72 for the final round.

After finishing the opening round in third place, Texas Southern scored a 332 to close out the championship in second place. Kassandra Rivera led the Lady Tigers shooting a 150 after opening the championship shooting 1-over par. She finished the championship second overall. Adriana Trevino also finished in the top 10 at 168 for TSU.

Jackson State (679), Prairie View A&M (957), and Mississippi Valley State (1046) rounded out the final team standings. JSU was led by top 10 leaderboard performances from Katie Griffith (162) and Stevie Booker (168).

ASU will receive the SWAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional Championship during the selection show on the Golf Channel on Monday, April 28, at 5 p.m.
