Shaquana Veney-Battle has been named the new Head Volleyball Coach at Virginia Union University.Veney Battle

Veney-Battle comes to VUU after serving as a volleyball coach in Japan, where she trained high-school as well as college-aged student-athletes. She spent a total of two years overseas preparing student-athletes for college careers.

In addition to her training student-athletes, Veney-Battle created a Special Olympics program in Japan. The program consisted of training Japanese and American citizens with and without intellectual disabilities to play in the largest unified sporting event in Asia-Pacific.

Veney-Battle has coached numerous high school volleyball and track & field teams in the U.S.A., including AAU National Teams.

Veney-Battle was a stand-out player at Fayetteville State University from 2004-08. Veney-Battle led the Lady Broncos to the 2007 CIAA Championship and was All-CIAA at libero (defensive specialist) the same year.

Veney-Battle, a Richmond, Va., native, played her high-school volleyball at Varina High School and was a part of the traveling AAU Team from Richmond, Va.

Veney-Battle received her Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Fayetteville State in 2008 and received her Master's in Sports Management from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
