LAFAYETTE, La. – Jackson State gave up two runs in the sixth to fall 3-1 to Mississippi State on Saturday in the Lafayette Regional at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

Trailing 1-0, JSU (32-24) responded in the fourth with a run courtesy of a bases loaded walk. The Tigers had three walks in the inning after Gary Thomas led off with an infield single. Charles Tillery drew the thrid walk and scored Thomas to knot the score at one apiece.Jackson State University

Tillery, Thomas and Tilur Smith registered the only hits for JSU while foir were left stranded on base.

JSU finished with three hits as Desmond Russell (9-5) went the distance on the mound. He allowed seven hits and three runs (all earned), with seven strikeouts and two walks.

MSU (39-22) had a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Cody Brown posted a single before taking second base on a groundout and third on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Matthew Britton put MSU up front early.

The Bulldogs added their eventual winning runs in the sixth innings. Jake Vickerson sparked the inning with a single before Gavin Collins followed with an RBI-single. Seth Heck notched a hit as Brown followed with a ground ball out producing another score.

MSU finished with seven hits. Vickerson and Brett Pirtle each had two hits. Starting pitcher Ben Bracewell was lifted after the bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning. Jonathan Holder (7-1) [icked up the win while ebding the game. In 5.1 innings on the bump, he allowed one base runner while striking out nine.

Jackson State will face Louisiana at 6 p.m. on Sunday in the elimination game. The winner will play in the championship round of the tournament.
