With CIAA weekend quickly approaching, many travelers are curious about where to grab a bite to eat.

Fortunately, Charlotte is home of some of the best soul food restaurants North Carolina has to offer. Places such as Nana’s Soul Food Kitchen, La’Wans Homestyle Cooking, and Mert’s Heart and Soul are known for their awesome service and delectable dishes. If you are looking to enjoy great food while enjoying the many events that the CIAA has to offer, look no further.

This establishment was voted #1 in the city of Charlotte by Elevate Lifestyle, an event management company located in the city, and for good reason. Nana’s Soul Food Kitchen is known for their quality food and service. Their jerk chicken wings, pulled bbq, and chicken alfredo are all fan favorites. Make sure to give them a visit and see for yourself.

“La’Wans is one of my favorite places to eat in Charlotte, their fried chicken is second to none,” said Jalen Manning, a Charlotte native.

This establishment has been open for over a decade and is famous for their self-proclaimed “homestyle family recipes”. If you are hungry, stop by and try some of their famous catfish, fried chicken, and macaroni and cheese.

Last but not least, if you are searching for some soul food in the city, you must visit Mert’s Heart and Soul. This restaurant is located in the heart of the downtown Charlotte, which has made it a favorite of those who come to the CIAA tournament. They offer everything from salmon cakes, to prime rib, to veggie cakes. They have even been featured on the Food Network’s “Diner’s, Drive-Ins, and Dives”. Mert’s Heart and Soul is definitely a must for those who are new to the city and want to see what great food the city of Charlotte has to offer.

All in all, without a doubt, Charlotte has some of the best soul food in North Carolina. Your CIAA experience will certainly be ten times better if you visit these restaurants while enjoying the festivities of the city. So make sure you stop by these places and enjoy the incredible food that these establishments have to offer.  You won’t regret it!
