Glen Allen, VA - Chowan University overcame Round 1 fourth place position to capture their second consecutive Central Intercollegiate Athletic Assocation (CIAA) Men's Golf Championship Title. The Hawks posted a two-day score of 631 for the second conference title in school history.

Chowan shot a 325 in the opening round of play, and carded a 306 on Friday. Virginia Union finished runner-up with a two-day round score of 636.  Livingstone College finished in third place (639) followed by Fayetteville State University (650). Johnson C. Smith University and Virginia State University each carded a 704 tying for fifth place. The Vikings of Elizabeth City State University posted a two-day total of 790 for a seventh place finish.  Saint Augustine's University finished in eighth place with a two-round team score of 885.

The Chowan Hawks will advance to compete in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament on May 2nd – May 5th. The NCAA Championship selection show for pairings for NCAA D2 Atlantic Region Men's Golf Regionals will be released on April 28th, 2017. Site selections will also be released at that time.

Jordan Francis of Chowan was crowned Low Medalist of the championship event. His two-day score of 145 was only 1 stroke over par, earning a No. 2 CIAA golf season ranking with his 76.5 strokes/round average.

On the All-Tournament team, Francis is joined by Virginia Union's Joshua Mohun and Shaw University's Isaiah Shaw who both swung for a 153 score total. Livingstone's Philip Harrison carded a 154 while Allen Day of Virginia Union posted a stroke total of 155.

Day's championship performance held him at the top of the CIAA rankings. The sophomore earned a 75.66 season average for CIAA Golfer of the Year and All-CIAA First Team honors. The All-CIAA First Team includes student-athltes with the Top 10 lowest averages throughtout the entire golf season.
