TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 2) – The Florida A&M Men’s Tennis team will open the 2017 NCAA Division I Tournament next Friday, May 12 against the 13th-ranked University of Georgia Bulldogs at the Dan McGill Tennis Complexr in Athens, Georgia.
FAMU (11-11), winners of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will face off against the host Bulldogs (18-7), winners of the Southeastern Conference in one opening round match at 2:00 p.m., preceded by an 11 a.m. bout between 22nd ranked South Florida (17-8) of The American Athletic Conference, and Duke University (16-9) of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The first-round winners will meet Saturday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m.
This will be only the second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance for Florida A&M, which made its’ only previous postseason trip in 2000, in the opening round against the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Meanwhile, Tuesday’s announcement marks the 39th NCAA Tournament appearance and the 34th-consecutive NCAA bid for the Bulldogs.
Georgia has won six NCAA National Championships as a team (1985, 1987, 1999, 2001, 2007 and 2008).
