Greenville, SC: Virginia University of Lynchburg (VUL) has been accepted for membership in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).
VUL will be entering the conference as a Division I provisional member in the South Region. The Dragons join Calvary University as new members for the 2017-2018 academic year. VUL and CU will join Biola University, Emmaus Bible College, Nebraska Christian College, Ottawa University Arizona and SAGU American Indian College as new members.
VUL will participate in the NCCAA sports of men's and women's basketball, football and men's and women's track and field.
Membership in NCCAA results in VUL becoming a "countable" opponent for NCAA statistics (including rankings and records).
"We were recently provided documentation and confirmation from the NCCAA that VUL will be full members starting in the fall. As a result, they are now a countable opponent based on our guidelines," stated a representative of NCAA Statistics.
“Our institution is excited and thankful to be a member of the NCCAA," said VUL interim athletics director Jimmy Joe. "We are also eager to be working inside the NCCAA’s mission as a Christian institution that is deeply invested in the holistic growth of our student-athletes.”
