After five years overseeing athletics at Prairie View A&M (PVAM), Ashley Robinson has moved to Jackson State as Vice President and Director of Athletics.
This will be Robinson's second stint at JSU. He was named assistant compliance director 10 years ago.
After leaving JSU, Robinson continued to advance up the compliance ranks by returning to his alma mater of Mississippi Valley State as the athletic department's compliance director in August of 2007.
In July of 2008, Robinson was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Assistant Commissioner for Compliance, moving on to his first stint at Prairie View as Assistant Vice President of Athletic Compliance & Academic Advising in 2009.
His first stint at PVAM lasted for three years before a nine-month stint as the athletic director at his alma mater (MVSU). Robinson was named Director of Athletics at Prairie View in June 2013, and was promoted to Vice President and Director of Athletics in November 2016.
During his tenure at Prairie View, Robinson implemented the Athletic Director’s Club, with membership increasing annually. He has also created and expanded corporate partnerships for the department, broadening the brand exposure and reach of PVAMU Athletics. In Jaunary 2017, the new PVAMU Sports Network online portal debuted to showcase Panther Athletics’ contests with new audio and video platforms and improved live stats, as well as a weekly radio show to provide an in-house platform to promote athletics and create additional sponsorship inventory for the department.
"We had a good thing going at Prairie View," Robinson said during his introductory press conference. "But (I like) coming home and being a part of Jackson State and a bigger tradition (for a school) that really believes in the importance of athletics."
