2019 SIAC Women's Outdoor Track Champions
The Benedict College women's track & field team won their third consecutive SIAC Championship with a dominating performance to win the title by 91 points on Saturday at Winthrop University's Irwin Belk Track.

Benedict had a 13-point lead over Albany State heading into the final day, and the Lady Tigers easily won the championship with a strong showing in Saturday's running events. Benedict finished with 227.5 points, while Spring Hill College surged into second place with 136.5 points. Paine College finished third with 111.5 points. Albany State was fourth with 104 points.

Benedict's Kimona Wilson received the Cleve Abbott Award, presented to the top overall point scorer in the championship. Wilson scored 42 points, finishing first in the long jump, the high jump, the 100-meter hurdles, second in the 400-meter hurdles, and fourth in the javelin throw.5374

Benedict's Frank Hyland was named the championship's most outstanding coach.

 

MEN

The Tigers scored 207.5 points to easily beat second-place Morehouse, which scored 152.5 points. Albany State was third with 149 points.

Benedict's Matthew Chesum was named the Most Outstanding Runner at the 2019 championship after coming away with four gold medals. He won the 10,000-meter run on Thursday night, the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday night, the 5,000-meter run on Saturday in a dominating 11 seconds, and the 1,500-meter run.5372
