Saint Augustine’s University has announced the hiring of Camelia Blake as the new Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. She joined the athletic department on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.
Blake succeeds Andre' Roach who left for a position at Shorter College in Georgia.
“Ms. Blake is an up-and-coming compliance director,” Athletic Director George Williams said. “President Everett B. Ward and I are glad that Ms. Blake accepted the position at Saint Augustine’s University. She will be an asset to the athletic department and the University.”
As Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, Blake will assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive, in-depth and effective athletic compliance program. She will monitor, interpret, analyze and evaluate athletic department activities intended to support NCAA, CIAA and university rules in addition to preventing, detecting and responding appropriately to violations of applicable athletic rules and regulations.
Blake previously worked at Fayetteville State University and Chowan University in compliance. At Fayetteville State, she was the Assistant Athletic Director/Academic Coordinator with duties in Compliance from 2010 to 2014. Before coming to Fayetteville State, Blake was the Assistant Director for Compliance at Chowan from 2009 to 2010.
Blake graduated from Virginia State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management. She earned a Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in Physical Education, Health, P.E. and Recreation with a concentration in Exercise Sports Administration in May 2015.
A Rice, Va., native, Blake was an All-CIAA selection in track and field at Virginia State. In 2008, Blake was a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships after winning the CIAA women’s 60-meter hurdles title. She also helped Virginia State win a share of the CIAA women’s cross country crown that same year.
