GRAMBLING, La. -- Jessieca Gafford has been named sports information director at Grambling State University, effective immediately.gsu jc gaffordGafford

A native of Simsboro, Louisiana, and a GSU alum, Gafford returns to Grambling from Paine College, in Augusta, Georgia, where she worked as SID since October 2014.

She earned a bachelor's degree in mass communication in 2012 and a master's degree in sports administration in 2013, both at Grambling State. During her time as a student at Grambling she worked with The Gramblinite as an award-winning student journalist. In addition, she worked part-time as a reporter at the Ruston Daily Leader as a reporter.

At Paine College, as the school's sports information director, she compiled statistics for basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball and golf. She developed a social media plan for Paine athletics to promote game days and the athletic accomplishments of student-athletes. She wrote and edited news releases for print and web, and she designed game day promotions and other resources to promote athletics. In addition, she handled game day operations, assisted in acquiring workers, helped with the university website and helped coordinate halftime shows during basketball season.

Prior to her time at Paine, Gafford served as the assistant SID at Texas A&M University- Kingsville. While there she compiled statistics, wrote and edited news releases. She designed media guides and she managed a team of student workers and helped with the university website.

Gafford will handle similar duties at GSU, just more. She will be responsible for the marketing and promotion of the institution's 15 sports teams at the NCAA Division I school.
