After just three seasons at the helm Florida A&M University head men’s basketball coach Byron Samuels will not be offered an extension at the end of this season ending his stint as head coach.famu rattler

After stepping in as head coach after former coach Clemon Johnson was fired, before the start of the 2014-2015 season, Samuels essentially had to build a team from scratch due to most of the players leaving the program.

Samuels was 17-71 as FAMU’s head coach; and finished the season on a six game losing streak going (7-23) overall, and (5-11) in the conference.

According to an interview done by the Tallahassee Democrat Athletics Director, Milton Overton Jr. stated,

“After review and evaluation of the Florida A&M University men’s basketball program, FAMU athletics has decided to take its program in a different direction.”

Assistant coach Lamont Franklin will lead the program as the interim head coach until a replacement is found.
