ETTRICK, Va. – Virginia State University has announced Jennifer Lynn Gilbert as the new softball head coach.
Gilbert is a native of Chesterfield, Va. and attended Longwood College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education. In 2010, she obtained her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Commonwealth University. Ms. Gilbert also received her certification as a national board certified teacher.Gilbert
While at Longwood, Gilbert was a part of the intercollegiate softball program for four years.
Lynne has taught in Chesterfield County Public Schools for 31 years. Gilbert has served as a full time professor in the School of Education during the 2014-15 school year at Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition, she has served as an adjunct professor for five years at VCU.
Gilbert has coached varsity softball on the high school level for 25 years. She began her coaching career at Manchester High School, where she coached for 18 years. During this time, her teams compiled seven district titles, 17 regional appearances, one regional title and one state title. She was also named coach of the year five times during those years, and selected to coach in the Virginia High School Coaches Association All-Star Game. During her coaching career, her teams have compiled 270 wins.
