Dover, Del. – The coach who led Delaware State to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship in 2016 has returned to head the Hornets’ women’s bowling program. DSU Director of Athletics Dr. D. Scott Gines has announced that Elysia Current has rejoined the staff as head coach of the team.Current
Current served a four-year stint as Delaware State’s head bowling coach from 2012-to-2016. In her final season, she led the Hornets to the 2016 MEAC Tournament championship. DSU defeated Norfolk State 4-1 in the tourney finals to capture the third conference title in team history.
The Hornets also qualified for the 2015 and 2016 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, and Current was listed among the Bowler’s Journal Top 100 Coaches each of those years during her first tenure at DSU.
A professional bowler and respected instructor, Current left the Delaware State post in 2016 to pursue other career opportunities.
“I’m grateful to Dr. Gines and the Delaware State administration for the opportunity to rejoin the Hornet family,” said Current. “I truly enjoyed my previous stint at DSU and am looking forward to reuniting with the University and the team. The program is in great shape and I’m hoping we can continue to be strong contenders for MEAC and national championships.”
Current officially returned to duty at Delaware State on July 8.
