ATLANTA, Ga.- NBA TV, in partnership with the Southwestern Athletic Conference, will televise back-to-back live women’s and men’s basketball games between Grambling State University and Jackson State University in honor of Black History Month on Monday, Feb. 22. The pair of SWAC conference games will tip at 3 p.m. ET and 5:30 p.m. respectively, with Ro Brown (play-by-play) and Deuce McCallister (analyst) to call the action.
Pregame, halftime and postgame studio coverage will be led by Stephanie Ready, Sam Mitchell and Ro Parrish starting at 2:30 p.m. Coverage throughout the afternoon will also feature special guests including JSU’s legendary Sonic Boom of the South Marching Band.
Last month, the NBA TV family lost Sekou Smith, who served as a reporter and analyst for the network and was an alumnus of Jackson State.
“The Southwestern Athletic Conference will continue to honor the life and legacy of former SWAC Advisory Board member Sekou Smith,” said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland. “We’re excited that NBA TV has chosen the Grambling State at Jackson State basketball game(s) for broadcast.”
“The game will feature tributes to Sekou while also serving as an opportunity for many to learn more about the significant impact he had on our conference and the landscape of sports journalism as a whole. Sekou was a proud Jackson State University alumnus and an individual that was constantly motivated to help grow our league and positively influence our young and aspiring minority journalist. This game will undoubtedly serve as a unique opportunity for us to recognize his unwavering support and love for Jackson State and the SWAC as a whole.”
