Sophomore quaraterback Jalon Jones completed 18 of 20 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns as Jackson Sstate cruised past Edward Waters, 53-0, in the W.C. Gordon Classic, Sunday afternnoon at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson.
Jones also rushed seven times for 39 yards for a team-leading 5.6 yards per game average.
Soophomore Kymani Clarke led the JSU ground attack with 18 carries for 94 yards. He was joined by sophonore Greg Williams with 11 carries for 62 yards.
The JSU defensse held EWC to a woeful 104 yards of total offense led by Tymetrius Patte and Kamren Thomas who combined for 15 tackles in the game.
Edward Waters only crossed the 50 yardline three times in 12 possessions.
This was the spring season opener for both schools with JSU head coach Deion Sanders getting the first of what he hopes will be many post-game baths.
Jackson State begins SWAC play Saturday when they host Mississippi Valley State. Edward Waters does not have any more sorung games scheduled.
