TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida A&M University president, Elmira Mangum, Ph.D., has appointed E. D’Wayne Robinson interim director of intercollegiate athletics at FAMU, replacing former interim director Nelson Townsend.
Townsend died from a sudden heart attack last Thursday after nearly one month on the job. Mangum named Townsend interim AD following the resignation of Kellen Winslow on December 15.
Robinson, a highly-seasoned veteran in the field of athletic administration, will oversee the department’s operations effective immediately. He was serving as FAMU Associate Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance prior to his current appointment.
Robinson is in his second tour of duty with FAMU Athletics having served as Associate Director of Athletics for Academic Support Services from 2006 to 2008. He was named Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance last August.
Robinson is a graduate of Tougaloo College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He also earned a Master of Science in Education from Alcorn State University and is presently pursuing a doctorate degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University.
