Charlotte, NC - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) was presented with the Charlotte Regional Partnership Jerry Award on Wednesday afternoon (April 6).
Each year, the Charlotte Regional Partnership recognizes a public organization and a private agency for their significant and ongoing contributions to the regional economy. The CIAA and Charlotte Motor Speedway were selected as the 2016 Jerry Award Winners and were honored during Charlotte Regional Partnership's Annual Luncheon and Awards Presentation.
"I am honored to received such a distinguished award from the Charlotte Regional Partnership on behalf of the CIAA family," said Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams. "This award demonstrates that the Charlotte community values a diverse and strategic partner, like the CIAA."
The CIAA moved its headquarters from Hampton, VA during the summer of 2015 and hosts several of its championship events in Charlotte. One anticipated event includes the annual men's and women's basketball tournament which has been known to bring in more than $55 million in economic impact along with a following of hundreds of thousands of fans per year. The CIAA Basketball Tournament recently concluded it's 11th season in Charlotte and is considered one of the most successful collegiate basketball tournaments in the country.
