ORANGEBURG, S.C.—South Carolina State All-American tight end Temarrick Hemingway was selected by the Los Angeles Rams, formerly of St. Louis, in the sixth round of the 2016 National Football League Draft. SCSU temarrick hemingwayHemingway

The Rams selected Hemingway with the 177th pick overall. The 6-foot-5, 244-pound Loris, S.C. native was the second player from South Carolina State University and third player drafted from an HBCU in this year's draft.

Hemingway is the 56th Bulldog to be selected from South Carolina State in the NFL draft. Teammate Javon Hargrave was picked earlier in the third round by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 89th pick overall.

Hemingway saw action in 42 games during his playing career for the Bulldogs. He finished with a career 93 catches for 1,056 yards, while also assisting with blocking for 1,000-yard rusher Jalen "Scoot "Simmons. He was named to the All-MEAC team twice during his career and earned SBN All-American honors in 2015.

This past season, he finished with 38 catches for 418 yards, while earning his undergraduate degree in business management and being selected to participate in the Charleston County Aviation Authority's inaugural Internship Program during the summer of 2015.

Former Bulldog standout and Pro Bowl and  NFL Hall of Famer David "Deacon "Jones played for the L.A. Rams (1961-71). South Carolina State is the only university in the state with three (3) NFL Hall of Famers including Jones (1980), Marion Motely (1968) and Harry Carson (2006).
