STILLWATER, Okla. – The MEAC Champion Augusta University men's golf team missed a trip to the NCAA Championships by two just strokes on Wednesday afternoon when they finished round three of the NCAA Stillwater Regional in sixth place 48-over par at Karsten Creek Golf Club.ncaa mens golf logo

The No. 30 nationally-ranked Jags eyed down the top five for all three rounds, but No. 31 Purdue edged out Augusta for the fifth-place spot at 46-over par. Host No. 6 Oklahoma State led the tournament for all three rounds and captured the first-place title seven-over par.

No. 18 Oklahoma sealed second (+26), No. 7 Clemson climbed to third (+37), Louisville fourth (+43), and Purdue fifth. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional advance to the finals.

Sitting in the top 10 for the first two rounds, junior Jake Marriott finished in a tie for 10th to lead the Jaguars with a round-three 75 (+3) and end seven over. Sophomore Broc Everett earned 22nd and finished next for Augusta with a three-over 75 as well. Everett ended eight over par.

Firing his second straight 75 (+3) of the tourney, senior Maverick Antcliff ended his 54 holes 14-over par to tie for 30th. Senior Robin Petersson concluded the event with a 79 (+7) to place 42nd and junior Emmanuel Kountakis dropped 10 shots his score with a three-over 75 to for 58th.

SWAC Champion Alabama State shot their best round of the Region finishing the day with a 316. It was their best performance of the three-day region championship. They finished the Region Championship in 14th place with a 977 (330-331-316).

Branson Ferrier led the Hornets with a 75 (37-38). His round included three birdies as he finished the tournament with a 238 (81-82-75). Mbongeni Maphosa had a strong 77 (36-41) for his best day of the region. He was even par on the opening nine holes in finishing the three-day event with a 246 (84-85-77).

Edd Hackett also enjoyed his strongest outing of the region with an 81 (40-41). He shot a 254 (89-83-81). Francis Berthiaume shot an 83 on the final day of action and finished the Region Championship with a 240 (76-81-83). The final participant for ASU was Charles Griffin who shot a 89 in today's round. He finished with a 268 (91-88-89).

The field for the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships consisted of 81 qualifying schools, which included 31 conference automatic qualifiers, 50 teams selected at-large and 45 individuals not on those teams.

Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon. The University of Oregon is the host institution for the 2016 championships.
