CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Preseason honors were announced on Tuesday at the Big South Conference Media Day and Hampton University had a pair of student-athlete recipients.
The preseason poll was announced and the Pirates were selected sixth in the seven-team conference. Two-time regular season champion Kennesaw State was picked by the coaches and media to defend its title with Monmouth picked second, Charleston Southern third, Campbell fourth and Gardner-Webb fifth. Presbyterian was picked seventh.
Redshirt senior Gibril Ghee was a preseason first team All-Big South selection on the offensive line, while fellow redshirt senior Ronald Bell was a preseason honorable mention selection.
Ghee saw action in 10 games for the Pirates…was part of a Pirates offensive line that helped the team average 196.0 rushing yards per game…helped an offensive line that averaged 412.0 yards per game.
Bell played in nine games for the Pirates last year with 19 catches for 290 yards and three touchdowns. He made a mark in the return game averaging over 23 yards per kick return.
Also, the ESPN3 broadcast schedule was released and Hampton's visit to Charleston Southern on November 9 will be shown on ESPN3 at 6 pm.
