RALEIGH, N.C. – Nadia Jefferies will be the next head softball coach at Shaw University, Director of Athletics Dr. Alfonza L. Carter announced Friday. Jefferies becomes the eighth head coach in program history.Jefferies
“We are extremely pleased to have Nadia as our softball coach,” Dr. Carter stated. “Having played and coached at the collegiate level, she knows what it takes to be successful and how to instruct and motivate players to maximize their abilities.”
Jefferies brings an in-depth knowledge of outfield, infield, base running, and slapping fundamentals to the Shaw softball program. She has several years of experience as a coach with the North Carolina Challengers Organization and owner of The Lab Sports Performance.
“I am proud to call Shaw University home and build a softball program that exemplifies the Shaw U traditions and winning culture for years to come!” added Jefferies.
A native of Garner, N.C., Jefferies joins the Shaw athletic team after teaching and serving as the head volleyball and softball coach at East Wake High School in Wendell, N.C. Prior to working at East Wake, Jefferies spent time as an assistant coach at Southwest Baptist.
As a former student-athlete, she became known for her great defensive play and base running ability. Jefferies enjoyed a fine softball career at North Carolina Central, including earning a team’s second best in steals (11) during her senior season, capturing 81 putouts and 41 assists for a fielding percentage of .917.
Jefferies graduated from Garner Magnet High School where she earned a plethora of awards for softball, including Player of the Year, All-Conference and All-State honors while leading the state (4A) in stolen bases. Additionally, Jefferies was a three-time All-Academic All-Conference honoree.
Jefferies earned a degree in Physical Education K-12 from North Carolina Central in 2014.
