Patti LaBelle to headline alumni concert

By Evelyn McNeal, Special correspondent

Legendary vocalist Patti Labelle will be headlining the 2017 GHOE alumni concert, but if you don’t have tickets already, you might have to sit this one out

This event has been sold out since July, with tickets snapped up by fans excited to see this legend performing live.

The Alumni Relations Association is elated to have Mrs. Attitude come perform at the concert. Patti Labelle is best known for her unique vocal skills, and creative fashion sense. She began her career in the 1960s.

She was the lead vocalist for the BlueBelles who rose to fame at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. Their hit single “Lady Marmalade” got them the recognition they deserved. The single reached No. 1 on the Billboard hot 100 chart.

The BlueBelles broke up over the musical direction of the group. Pattie went on to have a very successful solo career. In 1980 she recorded a ballad “The Best is Yet to Come,” which  landed her first solo Grammy nomination. In 1991 she received her first Grammy for her single “Burnin”

In addition to her musical success, she is a renowned author, and most recently, she has  sent the country into a frenzy over her Patti Pies. Mrs. Labelle is just an all-around show stopper.

Her concerts are like no other, known for her over-the-top performance. She definitely gives you your money’s worth.

“Pattie Labelle’s concert was the best performance I’ve seen,” said James Rosenberg, who recently saw the star perform in Manhattan New York. “She did almost all of her songs.”

The concert will be held 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct.  6 at the Koury Convention Center.

Tickets might be available on the resale market. Try also arrive early the day of show to see if more tickets become available. To be safe do not go buy tickets alone, and make the ticket is valid before paying.
