WASHINGTON, D.C.—For the fifth year in a row, Howard is the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball champion, following Sunday night’s five-set thriller (24-26, 37-35, 17-25, 25-23, 15-12) over Morgan State in the championship match in Burr Gymnasium.
The Bison (20-12) have won 12 MEAC titles overall.
Howard earned the MEAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Volleyball Championship. The NCAA Selection Show is Sunday, Dec. 1 at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
Jurnee Tipton led the Bison with 19 kills and 16 digs, while Kailyn Williams – the championship’s Outstanding Performer – added 18 kills and hit .326. Kira Porter, a First Team All-MEAC selection this season, added 15 kills and a .464 hitting percentage, while also assisting on eight blocks.
Semira Blair had 32 assists, and Kayla Diaz added 30. Fola Wilson had 21 digs to lead the Bison on defense.
Zoe McBride, the MEAC Co-Player of the Year, led Morgan State with 24 kills and 13 digs. Tylar Roberson added 21 kills of her own to go along with 18 digs. Jennevy Santos had 32 digs, while Roi Wallace racked up 67 assists.
The All-Tournament Team consisted of Kira Porter, Jurnee Tipton and Kailyn Williams for Howard, Zoe McBride and Tylar Roberson for Morgan State, Coppin State's Jordan Celestine and North Carolina A&T State's Edie Brewer.
