FRANKFORT, Ky. – Harry Stinson has been appointed interim director of athletics at Kentucky State University beginning Sept. 8, 2014.
Stinson, who has served as assistant AD for external operations and compliance since 2009, replaces Dr. Denisha Hendricks, who recently accepted the athletic director position at Chicago State University. Stinson said regarding her appointment, "KSU has seen tremendous growth under Dr. Hendricks, and we will miss her leadership."
"I am humbled and honored to accept President (Raymond) Burse's appointment as interim director of athletics," Stinson said. "Moving forward, our coaches and staff will continue to develop and produce quality student-athletes and a nationally recognized athletic program for our fans."
Prior to coming to KSU, Stinson served as the director of championships, communications and marketing at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) for nearly five years. He also served as interim commissioner during 2008-09. Stinson began his athletic career as a coach at Dr. Phillips High School (Orlando, Fla.), coaching track and field, basketball and football. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science at Florida State University in 2002 and a Master of Science in sports administration at Georgia State University in 2005.
"I look forward to strengthening relationships with members of the community, building new partnerships and furthering interactions with KSU's student body, faculty and staff," Stinson continued. "Our goals are to continue to enhance the student-athlete experience, ensure the welfare of our student-athletes and expose our students to success as we expose their successes! I am extremely excited about the future of KSU athletics."
Stinson will continue to be responsible for external operations and compliance and continue as head coach of the men's golf team.
